Obituary of Gesiena "Sieni" DeVries

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Gesiena (Sieni) deVries (nee Visser) on November 17, 2016, at Mar-Lane Lodge in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, with her family by her side. Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1924 to Siebe and Gesiena (Postma) Visser, Sieni immigrated to Canada with her young son in 1952 to join her husband. They arrived in Wolfville, made a home and good friends, and never left. Sieni was a gifted homemaker, cook and seamstress, but above all she was a kind and generous friend and Oma to all. Sieni is survived by her son Hendricus deVries (Brenda), son-in-law Richard Lombard (Mary-Jane), grandchildren Jennifer Warrington (John), Jillian Trudel (Craig), Nicholas deVries (Megan), Amanda Lombard (Mary), Scott Lombard (Courtenay), Michael Lombard (Alison), and great-grandchildren Chase, Hayden and Chloe. She was also a special Oma to Kendra and Connor Sullivan. Sieni is also survived by Ries and Rini Spitoven, Corrie and Arie LePair, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Dirk deVries, daughter Maroeska Lombard, and family members Joh and Cara Visser, Jan and Roeska Manders, Henk and Bep Willems. The family is forever grateful to Dr. Hazen Burton and to Marlene Atwell and Jim Wright for care and friendship during Sieni's final days. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, Wolfville Chapel, 568 Main Street Wolfville (902-542-4656). A visitation will take place on Tuesday November 22, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. A Celebration of our much-loved Oma's Life will be held on Wednesday November 23, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Wolfville Chapel. A reception will follow. A private family burial will take place following the reception. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or to a charity of your choice.
