Poem of Dementia
Don't look down upon me. If I embarrass you, I am sorry. Remember, our friends will understand. Strangers might not, but they are not important.
Remember….
Ever and always that I am a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a friend.
My memory is not what it used to be. I can remember pranks I played as a girl and I can remember the war but I can't remember what I had for breakfast.
Even though I can't remember things, I still have feelings. I love to laugh and occasionally I still like to play jokes. I know you love me but I still like to hear you say it.
Never forget I love you.
Together, we will get through this. Some days will be more difficult than others… but some days are going to be great!
In time I may not remember who you are. I hope this doesn't happen but please don't be hurt if it does.
And sometimes when it seems I am not present, please hold my hand because I am afraid.
Poem to express what daughter Julie feels for her mother
"I love you, Mom" (by Frank Paulick)
I don't know how the earth was made
Or what makes humans hum
The only thing I know for sure
Is that I love you, Mom.
We're always racing here or there
I know it's really dumb
To not take time to stop and say
I really love you, Mom.
But, in the rush of life each day
I can't explain how come
I guess it somehow skips my mind
To say I love you, Mom.
So, through this poem, I hope you'll see
Where my heart's coming from
No matter what I say or do
I really love you, Mom
As children, we may often stray
All kids can mess up some
But please remember how I feel
Always, I love you, Mom.
