Deepest condolences to all family members: Reading this beautiful tribute to Lea has brought back so many fond memories, starting with the first time i laid eyes on Lea as a twelve year old in 1963 at Nenas' house in Hudson. Don was so proud, and i think the rest of us were a little awestruck by her aura of grace, vivacity, adventure, that filled the room. In the years to follow, we stayed in touch by phone until i finally made good on my promise to visit the farm.Grey haired and work worn myself, i was amazed at how, despite her infirmities, she still had that aura - that unconditional engagement of the heart. Our last visit was bittersweet, as Lea was bravely struggling to stay afloat in a sea of pain. There was heartbreak to see her thus physically reduced, but her eyes were clear and true, and she left us with a piece of her soul that day to keep and cherish; given as a gift to pass along, as was her way.
Dear departed aunt Lea: i just wanted you to know how thankful i am for the gift you bestowed. i will do my best to pas it on and pass it on again...and also(though i know you will giggle at this): You are way too cool to ever be forgotten!
your loving nephew peter.

I will always remember the wonderful warm welcomes Lea gave me when I came to visit with my friend and her daughter Meg. She would fuss over me and make me feel part of the family, in the big cozy country kitchen filled with delicious smells of a dinner cooking and made with love.
Lea gave me some irises from her garden, that bloomed early in the spring. They will continue to remind me of her enthusiasm and spirit for life and the richness of this earth.

I will miss you beautiful lady. Your caring nature, your humor, and most of all your kindness to others. You have a beautiful heart and soul and heaven is a beautiful place with you now in it. Please say hello to my Mom if you see her as I told you many times you reminded me so much of her and i know you both would hit it off. My thoughts and prayers are with you Don and your family. You know i will still be around. God bless you all.
