Obituary of James Richard DeVenney

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James "Jim" Richard DeVenney, 89 of Upper Vaughan passed away on September 25, 2017 in Haliburton Place Long Term Care, Windsor, N.S.. Born on July 4, 1928, in Windsor Forks, he was the son of the late John and Nellie (Sweet) DeVenney. Jim attended Mill Section School until the age of 17. He then left school and travelled with friends to Taber, Alberta. Upon returning back home to Windsor Forks, he obtained a truck and started to work on farms and in the woods. His career consisted of working for Vernon Shaw, Midland Transport, Fundy Gypsum Company and 26 years with C.K.F. before retiring in 1993. He was known as a very calm man who was always pleasant to everyone. He was a man that enjoyed many things such as, visiting family at Evangeline Beach, to enjoy the occasional hot dog, trips to White Point Beach and Newfoundland. He held interests in gardening, shovelling snow and putting in his four cord of wood for the winter, every year. Jim was a self proclaimed "Ford" Man, so much so he wore his Ford hat around the nursing home. Staff had a hard time removing the hat at bedtime. Count your garden by the flowers that grow never by the leaves that fall. Count your days by the golden hours don't remember clouds at all. Count your nights by stars not shadows. Count your years with smiles not tears. Count your blessings not your troubles. Count your age by friends not years. Jim is survived by his wife Anna (nee Card); son Darrell (Gwen) DeVenney of Sackville; daughters Margaret (Leon) LeBlanc of Amherst; Marion (Arthur) Leightizer of Sackville; Barb Burns of Sackville; step-daughters Gail (Ted) Corkum of Chester; Jackie (Matt) Doyle of Sumas Mountain, BC; Tabatha Ward of Kentville; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; brother Robert "Bobby" DeVenney of Windsor Forks and sister Nancy MacInnes of Summerland, BC. He is predeceased by his son David; brothers John, Philip and Alan; Sister Patricia "Patty" Maxner and sister-in-law Doreen. A graveside Service will be held on October 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Redden Valley Cemetery in the DeVenney Valley, Windsor Forks, N.S. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Redden Valley Cemetery (c/o Robert DeVenney) or Upper Vaughan Baptist Church.
