Obituary of Harold Fuller Calkin

CALKIN, Harold Fuller, 97 of Berwick passed away on Jan. 5, 2018 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Welsford, NS, he was the son of Charles and Bertha (Fuller) Calkin.
Harold was a farmer and lived on the Calkin century farm in Welsford where he produced milk, apples and beef cattle. He sold the farm in 1980 and moved to Berwick with his wife Betty. Recently, he resided at Grand View Manor, Berwick. He loved to travel and spend summers at the cottage in Harbourville, as well as several winters at Carefree Country Club in Winter Haven, Florida. Harold enjoyed playing cards, curling and spending time with friends and family. He was very devoted to the Berwick & District Lions Club having a 55-year active membership. He received Life Membership and was named a Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest honour in Lionism. Harold was a member of Berwick United Church.
He will be dearly missed by his children Greg (Diane) of Simsbury, CT; Dwight (Gloria), Allan (Laura), Joy Dukeshire, all of Calgary, AB; Mary (Randy) Harrison of Truro; grandchildren Lisa, James, Andrea, and Garth Dukeshire; Kyle and Robyn Harrison; Katie Beal; Jaclyn and Christofer Calkin, Stephanie Saunders; Sarah and Madison Calkin and 7 great grandchildren.
Harold was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty (Forsyth) Calkin and he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Harold was also predeceased by his sister Lorna (Calkin) Moyer; by the children of his father Charles and first wife Georgie (Fuller) Calkin: Frances Palmer, Lillian Bayne (Flemons), Edmund Calkin, Erminie Burgess, and Arthur Calkin.

A memorial service will be held on Jan. 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Berwick United Church with Rev.Tom Woods and Rev. Ivan Norton officiating. Interment at Berwick Cemetery will take place after the service for family only. Reception for friends and family will take place at Berwick Lions Hall (Kings Mutual Century Centre), 250 Veterans Dr., Berwick following the service. Memorial donations Harold's memory may be made to the Berwick United Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Berwick Funeral Chapel, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick (902-538-9900).
