Obituary of E. Ruth Benedict

E. Ruth (Smith) Benedict - age 94, formerly of Wolfville, passed away May 22, 2018 in Orchard Court, Shannex, Kentville. Born in Greenfield, Hants Co., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Effie (McInnis) Smith.

She devoted her life to her family, her faith and her home where she was an immaculate housekeeper. Ruth was a Certified Dietician and worked for a time at Palmeters Nursing Home, Kentville. She enjoyed reading, quilting, knitting and took great pleasure in giving away flowers from her rose garden. She was always thinking of others and doing kind deeds for family and friends. She loved to laugh and share her humor. She will be forever remembered for her infectious smile and beautiful, sparkling blue eyes.

She is survived by daughters, Gloria (Brian) Isnor, Gaspereau; Dianne Isnor (John Van Buskirk), White Rock; Linda (John) Patterson, Hants Border; grandchildren, Luanne Isnor (June Brown), Kendall (Trish) Isnor, John (Dawn) Isnor, Lisa Isnor (Brian Martin), and Kimberley Fox (Patrick McCarthy); five great grandchildren, Hannah, Nathaniel, Evan, Ryan, and Kayla and three great-great grandchildren, Trésean, Zaya and Meka. All of these were especially dear to her and always made her smile.

Ruth is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Austin, just after celebrating their 73rd Anniversary; brothers; Roy, Harry, Raymond, Burpee, and Donald, sisters; Evelyn, Minnie, Jennie, Grace and great granddaughter Lily.

Mom loved her new friends made at Orchard Court. Our family would like to thank staff and residents at Orchard Court for their love, care, and kindness.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 3rd, 3:00 pm at the Kentville Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2 Baden Powell Ave. off #1 Highway, Kentville, NS. Chris Plant officiating. Interment will take place after the reception for both Ruth and Austin at Willow Bank Cemetery, Gaspereau Avenue Wolfville. Donations in Memory may be made to the Kentville Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses or the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
