Obituary of Hazel Blanche Foster

Please share a memory of Hazel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hazel Blanche Foster, 100 of Auburn, Kings Co., passed away May 26, 2018 in the Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. Born in Ross Corner, Kings Co., August 22, 1917 she was the last sibling of her immediate family. She was a daughter of the late Edward Evans Graves and Mary (Thorpe) Graves, of Ross Corner and Kingston. She was a member of the Aylesford Baptist Church and former member of Billtown Baptist Church, where she was Baptised. Hazel started teaching in the Ross Corner School after her grade eleven year. Later she cooked for the apple picking crews in the Valley. She and her sister Pansy cooked at the Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville. After she was married, she worked seasonally in the various factories and with her husband on their farm. She worked hard and was a very smart and spunky lady, making her judgement on you within five minutes. Hazel had a love of the writen word and through her time, spent many hours on the writing poetry and songs. Hazel would have many people that would talk to her about history. She was really great at keeping names and dates in her memory of times past and she could spin it off to you as though it happened yesterday. She held onto her sharp mind until the very end. She is survived by her only daughter Marion Foster of Auburn and Pictou; foster son David Roach of Kingston; her three grandsons Stephen (Archana) Holland of Timberlea; Billy (Michelle) Holland of Kentville and Ashley "Spike" Oickle of Edmonton, AB; four great-grandchildren Shayla Naugle of Lower Sackville; Carson Holland of Kingston; Teela and Kasten Holland of Kentville; first cousin Howard Illsey of Aylesford; several nieces and nephews. Hazel was predeceased by husband Wilfred Foster on May 31, 1980; sisters Frances (John) Longley, Marjorie (Ralph) Pineo, Pansy (Gerald) Rogers, Dorothy (Jerry) Foote and Clara (Blake) Winott; brothers Luther (Lillian) and Bedford (Ada) Graves;. A visitation will take place on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the Berwick Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Aylesford Baptist Church, 2543 Highway 1, Aylesford, with Pastor Patrick Gilbert officiating.
