Obituary of James Hoover Irving

James “Jim” Hoover Irving, 89  died peacefully on July 24, 2018 in Wolfville Nursing Home where he resided for the past several years.  Born in Baxter’s Harbour, he was the youngest of the children of John and Marion (Pollock) Irving.

He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years in December 2017, Thelma (Butler) Irving.

Surviving are sons, James A. (Rosemary) of British Columbia and Joel L. (Bonnie) of Mahone Bay; grandchildren Robbie and Madeline; great-grandson Ronan; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by brothers Robert, Richard, Arthur and John; sisters Mildred, Jean and Charlotte.

Jim loved his family and enjoyed gardening, cross-county skiing, playing jokes, dancing with Thelma, Wii bowling, card games, fixing almost anything and could kick the top of a standard door frame well into his 50s!  He worked on the family farm and then for F.W. Robertson in Kentville before taking over the Texaco Service Station in Wolfville in the 1960’s and finally with Rafuse Equipment in Kentville.  Thelma and Jim had been actively involved in Wolfville Baptist Church.

A Funeral Service, followed by a reception, will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Wolfville Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Dr. Allison Trites. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Wolfville Nursing Home for their care. Memorial donations may be made to the Wolfville Baptist Church, Parkinson Society Canada (Halifax Office) or charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
