Dec.21, 1957 – July 31, 2018, after a 14-year battle with cancer, Kathy has finally lost her fight. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family and many friends on a warm summer afternoon.
Born in Glace Bay, NS, she moved to Halifax as a teen, where she later married, then to Pictou County where she was a successful ceramic artisan and craft teacher. Kathy loved selling at craft fairs, shopping malls and at flea markets. She had a talent for spotting the next trend, which was the secret to her success. She also enjoyed meeting people and she took time to listen to them in an empathetic way. Most of all she loved her family and her close friends.
When she became ill, Kathy was determined to beat her disease and to find ways of keeping as healthy and physically active as possible. Kathy eventually had an idea of writing a series of humorous newspaper articles about her health struggles and successes. This opened a door for her to a new group of friends and supporters who were on the same journey. We all learned something from Kathy’s articles, about how to be brave and how to keep a sense of humour in the toughest battles.
She is survived by her daughters Mandy Selig (Gus Levitt); Kerry Lane (David); brothers James Golemiec; Kevin Golemiec (Wanda Jewers); father Wladyslaw (Laddie) Golemiec; granddaughters Vada Selig and Emma Lane; her long-time companion Wayne Pellerine and by many close friends.
Predeceased by her mother, Dr. Phyllis Golemiec and her grandmother Florence Daye.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Aberdeen Regional Hospital for caring for Kathy and to thank all of her supporters through the years, who have met her or who kept her spirits up with letters of encouragement.
A Funeral Service will be held on August 4, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Belmont United Baptist Church, Pastor Henry Boehm officiating; reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Fund or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS (902-679-2822).
