Obituary of Frank Edgar Comish

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Frank Edgar Comish, 92 of New Minas. He was the son of the late John and Eleanor (Curtis) Comish. After joining the Canadian Forces at the age of 18, Frank served 30 years in the Navy. He proudly sailed on 13 different ships. Before retiring, in 1974, he finished off his career in the forces, teaching Gunnery at Statacona. After retiring, he served as a Commissionaire at Aldershot. Once retired, Frank had more time to enjoy some forgotten hobbies, like gardening and snaring rabbits to make fresh rabbit stew or feeding the neighborhood stray cats. Having never obtained a driver's license, Frank was often seen out on one of his daily walks or taking a senior bus trip, bowling or to a musical jam session with his loving wife of 48 years, Bernice. Along with his loving wife, Bernice, he is survived by sons Stephen; Shawn (Sharon); Kevin, all of Dartmouth; daughters Melanie (Ron) Roy, Dartmouth; Brenda Lee (Ed White), Orlando, Florida; step-sons Frank (Judy) Russell, New Minas; John Russell, Port Williams; Brian (Roberta) Russell, Forest Home; step-daughters Marlene (Doug) Beatty, Ontario; Nancy (Ron Mappleback) Russell, Wolfville Ridge; sisters Mona Smith, Victoria, BC; Ethel Comish, Hamilton, ON; 26 grandchildren, including special granddaughter, Christina (she loved her Grampy "Poppie" dearly); 27 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren (one more on the way); several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by step-sons Eric Schofield and Kirk Russell; step-daughter-in-law Marg Russell; brothers Charlie and Don; sister Elsie. The family would like to give special thanks to the VON staff and staff of the Veteran Wing at the Soldiers Memorial Hospital. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Wolfville Funeral Chapel. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice.
