Obituary of Edgar Kitchener Aston

ASTON, Edgar Kitchener - 88, died peacefully in Haliburton Place, Windsor, on February 14, 2005. Born in Grenfell, Sask., he was the youngest son of the late Frederick and Mary Anne (Guest) Aston. He was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters; his first love, Elizabeth (Amy) in 1974; second wife, Shirley (Fairn) in 2003. Ed is survived by his beloved daughter, Shaughney Aston, Wolfville, and by the light of his life, grandson Morgan Aston Farrell, Banff, Alta. Ed trained as an RCMP officer in Saskatchewan and was posted to Windsor, Nova Scotia during the Second World War. He was the first Inspector for the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission, and later appointed as Administrator for the Nova Scotia Liquor License Board. Following a brief period with the City of Dartmouth's newly created Burnside Industrial Park, and a run for a seat in the Provincial Legislature, Ed settled into a successful career as a business entrepreneur in silver recovery and real estate. Upon retirement, Ed moved into Tideways Housing Co-operative in Wolfville and served many years as president of the board. Active in sports all his life, Ed was an avid pheasant hunter and championship curler, and in retirement years enjoyed shuffleboard, bridge, crokinole, gardening and cooking. He had a lifetime interest in provincial politics and was an active member of the Dartmouth Gyro Club for many years. Ed was conscientious and hard working, dedicated to his family and to his career, loved and respected by friends and colleagues. Known for his kindness, generosity and keen sense of humour, Ed remained a true gentleman to the end. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in the lounge at Tideways in Wolfville on Sunday, February 20, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Eric Patton officiating.
