Obituary of Veronica Irene Reeves

Veronica Irene Reeves, 84 of New Ross, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in the South Shore Regional Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. Born in The Forties on April 23, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ethel (Hiltz) Bezanson.

Despite being stricken with degenerative osteo-arthritis in her twenties, Veronica was able to continue to do many of the tasks she enjoyed such as gardening and baking. Her birthday cakes, molasses cookies and caramel popcorn were the best. She was very direct with her opinions and would say things that could redden the face of a sailor if she was really ticked off.

Veronica is survived by sons, Blaine (Sandi) of Bridgewater, and Dana (Susan) of New Ross; daughter Stephanie (David) Sweeney of Halifax; sister, Mona Reeves; seven grandchildren, Julie (John) Boudreau, Jason (Stephanie Beaver), Nathan (Brittany), Nicole (Dave Graves), Nyles Reeves, Jesse and, Larissa (James Fraughton) Sweeney; three great-grandchildren, Akara Reeves, Sophie and Thomas Bourdeau as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Veronica was predeceased by her husband, Blaine; sisters, Grace Young, Elsie L’Heralt, Rhoda Kosowan, Audrey Abernathy; and brother, Orval Bezanson.

A visitation will take place on Monday June 17, 2024 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Serenity New Ross Funeral Chapel.  A Graveside Celebration of Life will be held on June 18, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the St. Augustine Cemetery in the Forties. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Augustine’s Cemetery Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society .
