Obituary of Betsy Sarah Turner

Please share a memory of Betsy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With broken hearts, many tears and wonderful memories we say good bye to Betsy Sarah (Burris) Turner, our beloved Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Friend. On Thursday September 27, 2018, Betsy Sarah Turner, 84 of Digby passed away in Tideview Terrace.  Born on May 12, 1934 in Eel River Crossing, NB, she was the daughter of the late Loran and Mildred (Perrott) Burris.

Betsy attended Eel River School and Superior High School (Dalhousie) NB.  She obtained her diploma in Business Administration from Sacred Heart Convent. Following graduation, she relocated to Niagara Falls, Ontario with her brother, Gerald and was employed at Oneida.  On February 12, 1956 and May 17, 1960, respectively she welcomed two daughters, Deborah and Donna and the three were comically referred to as The Three Musketeers. Betsy lived, with her family, in many provinces across Canada, settling in Weymouth NS and then to her final home at Tideview Terrace, Digby where she made special friends and loved and was loved by her caregivers.

Mom was a homebody and a talented crafter. She stitched many beautiful quilts, cross stitch samplers and clothing with loving hands. She loved to knit and crochet. Her hats, scarves, mittens and socks kept us warm and enveloped in her love. Betsy always enjoyed the challenge of a lexicon, crossword puzzle and cryptoquote.

Betsy was known for her sassy wit and great sense of humor. She loved nothing better than being surrounded by her family, especially on special occasions. She had a genuine laugh and was always in the center of our family chaos and gatherings. Our Mom was always up for a good joke … she got as good as she gave. Everyone loved when “Mom was in the house”.

Family Circle, we were not, Family Circus we were! Mom will fondly be remembered for her favorite saying “Where’s my pie?”

She leaves behind her two daughters Deborah Turner-Anderson of Ashmore, Digby Co; Donna Purcell of Lawarencetown, Halifax Co.; sisters Zella Gaudet of Saint John, NB; Jean Bradford of Black’s Harbour; Donna McIntyre of Eel River Crossing, NB; grandchildren Matthew Best; Joshua Purcell; Jesse Purcell; Faith Turner-Anderson; Brandon Purcell; and great grandchild Brayden Purcell.

Besides her parents, Betsy was predeceased by her brother Gerald Burris; her sister Vera Bernard; brother in-law(s) Maynard Gaudet; Roy (Buddy) Bradford; Gerald (Joe) McIntyre and James Bernard.

Our family would like thank the medical team and staff of Tideview Terrace for their love, care and compassion towards our Mother and our family.

As per Betsy’s wishes cremation has taken place.  A celebration of life will take place at a later date.  She will be laid to rest, with her family, at the New Mills Cemetery, Restigoush County, New Brunswick.  In lieu of flowers or memorial donations we simply ask that you take a moment in memory of Mom to hug your child, grandchild, friend today. Time waits for no one.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Digby, B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
