Obituary of Barbara Anne Neary

Barbara Anne Neary (Gates), age 79, passed away peacefully October 10, 2018 surrounded by her family in Dartmouth General Hospital.

Born in Halifax August 5, 1939, Barb grew up on a farm in Hilden. She graduated from Brookfield High school and went on to graduate from the Grace Maternity Hospital School of Nursing in 1960. She loved being a mother and a nurse and spent most of her career at the Grace caring for mothers and their babies.

Growing up she was active in Hilden United Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, belonged to Girl Guides and CGIT where she especially enjoyed the summer camps at Chance Harbour. For many years she was active with United Commercial Travelers and was the president of the Ladies Auxiliary. Barb enjoyed singing and was a member of Woodlawn United Church Choir for 45 years. Every summer happy memories were made at our family cottage. She had a green thumb and could spend from dawn till dusk planting her flowers just right. Her gardens always flourished.

Barb will be sadly missed by her husband of 57 years, Glenn Neary; daughter Susan (David Corrigan); son Michael (Lee Speed), Edmonton; and grandsons Liam Hill, Matthew, Russell and Daniel Neary; nieces Anne Bauld, Joan Gannon; and nephews Eric Farr, Robert and Bruce Brownell.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 1:00 pm in the Woodlawn United Church, reception to follow. Committal Service in Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville at 5:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Woodlawn United Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
