Obituary of Lewis Harry Johnstone

Lewis Harry Johnstone, Sr., 74, of Kentville, passed away October 15 in the Valley regional Hospital. Born November 15, 1943 in Wolfville, he was the son of the late Harry and Annie (Brown) Johnstone.

Lewis spent many years working with Nova Scotia Sanitorium and finished off his career retiring from the Valley Regional Hospital. He had a great love for gardening, catering to the lilies, the neighborhood kids nicknamed him “Pansy” as he was often found tending to the flower beds. Lewis was also well-known for his creative inventions, using an old spin washer to water the grass was one of the most memorable creations. Lewis was a 40-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #6, Kentville.

He is survived by his loving wife Treca, married for 54 years; sons Lewis Jr (Chantal) of New Brunswick; Vincent of Kentville; daughter Shelley (Darren) Hiltz of Glenmont; granddaughters Aleesha and Amanda Johnstone both of New Brunswick; Danielle Salsman of Dartmouth; Madison Johnstone of Kentville; Kelcey Hiltz of Glenmont; grandson Cody Hiltz of Glenmont; great-grandson Abel Winters; sisters Helen Baltzer and Margaret Johnstone both of Kentville; Sadie Griffen of Farmington; Betty (Sherwin) Hiltz of Cannan; Linda Johnstone of Kentville; Teresa Johnstone of Scotts Bay; brothers Freeman and Richard Johnstone both of Kentville; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister Nellie Gieldfeldt; brother Leo H. Johnstone; and brother-in-laws Roy Griffen and Carl Baltzer.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Wolfville Funeral Chapel, with reception to follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Wolfville Funeral Chapel, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, B4P 1E5 (902-542-4656).
