I had the pleasure of getting to know Pete and Kate when I was quite young in the early 80’s. They were the most warm and welcoming people. Pete challenged me at quite a few turns and I remember that he was one of the smartest, cleverest men I had ever met, and didn’t mind giving you his opinion on whatever subject came up. Pete and Kate both had a large impact on my life, gained my love and admiration and I thought about them often over the years. Sincere condolences to all the Blakesleys.

I worked with Peter at Chalk River for many years. It was he who introduced me to the fine art of home beer-making - something I have continued ever since. When he and Kath moved to Deep River from Manitoba, Marion and Kath became very good friends. Peter's photographic skills helped me in my early attempts to improve from 'snapshot' photography, and we have several lovely portraits of us that he took.
He and I shared a common interest in the English language, and enjoyed the occasional 'jar' while ruing the steady destruction of Shakespeare's language in a time of internet abbreviations - and worse.
Although we wound up on opposite sides of the vast country, we kept in touch. We will miss him very much.

My condolences to Peter's family. I only just saw this sad news when I was trying to locate Peter, as I had not seen him in Deep River library for quite some time. I had really been missing his wonderful conversations on all things political, which he was not shy at sharing on his frequent library visits. I am sure he would have had a lot to say on Brexit. I never worked with Peter at AECL but we had many conversations on the state of the industry as retirees tend to do. I am just finishing the latest Simon Winchester book, it was Peter who first introduced me to his writings.

I met Peter and Kath in Deep River in the late 1980s. Peter and I shared an interest in woodworking - he was an expert and I was a novice. He taught me some tricks of the trade and I always enjoyed his sense of humour. Kath was a lovely hostess when I would come visiting to see he latest project.
Our friendship continued in Nova Scotia as they moved quite close to my parents in the Valley. I was lucky to spend an afternoon with him last summer - I am so glad I made the time to drive down. He was as warm and funny as always.
You had great parents and he told me how proud he was of all his boys!

My Husband & I knew Pete & Kate when we lived in Deep River 1990-1996. They were a wonderful couple, & their hospitality & friendship was second to none. Even though we moved back to England we kept in touch by writing long emails to each other, & The Christmas Blakesley Gram was a pleasure to read. After Kate died I continued writing to Pete & he was just as caring & understanding as Kate. He helped me through my struggle with losing Stewart & I am so thankful that I knew him & considered him a true friend.
I am so sorry that he has gone, out of my life.

We have been neighbours of one of Peter’s sons for many years, and were introduced to Peter during one of his visits. Peter struck me as a very confident, very well read, knowledgeable person who held a strong sense of duty & valor. I remember corresponding with him via e-mail and he had written a rather lengthy paragraph explaining a situation that he was passionate about. What could have been said in 10 words - took at least 5 times more words - to bring forth Peter’s point of view! Whether one agreed or not, Peter had conviction in what he believed.

Pete is very much missed by his Wellington Drive neighbours. We miss his laugh, his stories, and his ever present offer of help. He always knew when to turn up with a book, some food and a story! We lost one of the best. My condolences to his sons and grandchildren.
