Obituary of Beverly Hazelwood

Beverly D. Hazelwood, age 91, of Somerset, NS, passed peacefully away on December 30, 2018, at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with family at his bedside. He was the son of the late Laura (Wentzell) and Lorne Hazelwood.

Beverly is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene (White), of 62 years; daughter, Vicki; son, Wendell (Margaret Rand); grandchildren, Malcolm, and Laura, “Sebastian”; sisters, Jean Ibsen of Scarborough, Ontario, and Enide Holmes of Moncton, NB; brother-in-law, Denny (Shirley) White of Dartmouth, NS; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother, Armand Hazelwood, and his sister, Reta Whitman.

Bev was well like by those who knew him.  He was a man of many talents and thoroughly enjoyed helping others.  He was a true conversationalist who loved spending time chatting with one and all.  He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Berwick Funeral Home Saturday, January 5, at 2:30 pm, with Pastor Christina Bigalow officiating. No visitation or reception, at family’s request. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association, or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Berwick Funeral Chapel, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick, NS, B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900).

The family of Beverly Hazelwood would like to thank everyone who supported us during Bev’s illness and passing.

Thank you to the VON staff who conscientiously tended to Bev at home, and to the Valley Regional Hospital doctors and staff who cared for him during his last days.  Thank you, too, to the Red Cross for providing equipment, and for being there for us.

Considerable thanks goes to Pastor Christina Bigelow for administering such a beautiful service and eulogy, and to the Serenity Funeral Home for their compassionate help and guidance.

We appreciate all the cards of condolence and the kind donations to charities on Bev’s behalf.

A special thank you to our good neighbors, Imelda Darwish, Madge and Nancy Morse for helping us get through these past months, and in particular, for their plates of goodies when we needed them most.

We are grateful to each and everyone who helped us and for their compassion, sympathy and support.  It has meant so much to us.
