Obituary of Dorothy Winnifred Roberts

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

There was never a girl born who got any older than 18 in her heart - Robert Heinlien.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Dorothy, aka Nanny to most. She held everybody in her heart as a mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and, from where the love grew as wife to Heber Roberts, predeceased March 2010. Dorothy passed away at home in the same place as Heber, with her loving family by her side on December 30, 2018.

She was 90 years old and lived a joyous life in spite of being in a body that was not always kind to her. She was born in Port Blandford, N.L., February 4, 1928 and married June 26, 1953. She was always surrounded by love from family and friends and was able to light up the room with her beautiful smile. She dedicated her life as a devoted wife to Heber and mother to their five children.

She stood by all of Heber's life endeavors, which were many. She had a green thumb and planted many a seed with him and was always there for us with her love and warm hugs and kisses. She was very proud of us all.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Job; her brothers, Aubrey (Mary), George, Fred (Barbara), Donald (Elsie); and Jack/John (Ida); and her sisters, Molly (Doug), Daisy (Carl), Beverly (Jack), and Marina (William).

Left to mourn are her youngest brother, Job (Sybil); her son, David (Cathy); her daughters, Judy (Dwain), Cathy, Helen (Yale), and Marilyn (Jean); her grandchildren, Lucas, Michael, Marina, Heather, Daniel, Brandon, and Salvatore; her great-grandchildren, Matteo, Malachi, Isaiah, Ethan, and Morgan. Also leaving to mourn are her sisters-in-law, Ida (Jack/John), Arthura/Thu (George); Elizabeth/Margie (Gordon) and Margaret (Bruce); and brothers-in-law, William (Marina), Wilfred (Elizabeth/Libby) as well as her many nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom have held her close in their hearts.

We'll love you until the rivers run still, and the four winds we know blow away. We'll give you a Daisy a Day. Mom is dancing with Dad amongst the daisies in Heaven.

A very special thank you to Rev. Tammy Hodge and Maureen Stiner for making Mom's life and passing a blessed one. Thank you to the VON for their kindness and care of Nanny, and special thanks to Loretta in making her comfortable in her last hours. Thank you also to the caring staff of Northwood, with special thanks to Maggie, Janelle, Courtney, Melyssa, Felicia, Cynthia, Shauna, Marianne, Cheryl, Danielle, and Emily, who were taking care of mom's needs in the end. Thank you also to Michelle Dominic who also took special care of Nanny and the plethora of friends and family who have supported us over the years.

Cremation has taken place and Dorothy's celebration of her life will be officiated by Rev. Tammy Hodge and held on Sunday, January 6th, at 2 p.m., in St. Nicholas Anglican Church, 29 Westwood Blvd., Upper Tantallon, with a reception to follow in the church. Cheers to all and thank you for being by our side. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or St. Nicholas Anglican Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
