Obituary of Gerald Raymond Parsons

GERALD RAYMOND PARSONS – 65

“Jerry” to all who knew and loved him, transcended this earthly life as he had lived it, full of Faith and Hope. Jerry passed away peacefully, Sunday February 17, 2019, in the VG Palliative Care Unit, Halifax after a very brief illness.

Jerry was the son of the late Raymond and Millie Parsons of Halifax, and was also pre-deceased by his brother Bruce Parsons of Trenton Nova Scotia.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years Janet (Cotter) and his daughter Holly (Matt) Perrin of Halifax and his two grandchildren Teyla and Kayden who he loved and adored, a sister Joan Hales, Oshawa Ontario, and adopted sister Lin Mickalyk of Dartmouth and by many nieces and nephews Tina, Robin, Samantha, Julie, Kim and Timothy. He will be sadly missed by Janet’s family, Les Cotter (Father in-law) Judy & Jerry Kane, Joy & Brian Evenson, Jamie & Diane Cotter and many nieces and nephews and by his best friend Burpee deLong who was by his side until the end.

Jerry loved to play his guitar and sing of God’s mercy and grace every chance he had and spent many times ministering in churches, senior homes and prisons with his wife Janet. Jerry loved to ride his motor bike and explore this beautiful province and enjoyed scuba diving and travelling. Jerry was a faithful member of his church, Faith Tabernacle and was involved in leading worship and children’s ministry with G-ROC. He volunteered with Parker Street Food bank doing deliveries and loved putting a smile on the face of anyone who were hurting. He was not ashamed of his faith in Jesus Christ and was grateful for the second chance in life given to him.

The family is deeply grateful for the compassion and love of friends and neighbors and his church family and for the care and compassion extended to him by the staff of 7A Palliative Care at the VG, Halifax.

Visitation will be held at Faith Tabernacle Church, 6225 Summit Street, Halifax, Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 11:30-1:00, followed by a celebration of Jerry’s life at 2:00 with a reception to follow immediately after the service, the Rev Sheila MacDonald Officiating.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
