Obituary of Vivian Lillian Ogilvie

Please share a memory of Vivian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Vivian Lillian May Ogilvie, 93 of Berwick, passed away February 18, 2019 in the Grand View Manor, Berwick.  Born August 13, 1925, Vivian was the daughter of the late Walter and Blanche (Lewis) Ogilvie.

Vivian was one of ten children born to Walter and Blanche Ogilvie.  She lived most of her life on the family farm working hard at housework, washing, cooking and often in summer she went to the garden to pick vegetables to have for dinner.  She was a good cook and made many healthy meals, not to mention a multitude of desserts.  Her niece, Mary, was especially fond of her doughnuts, and Vivian would always slip a few extra ones to her nephews and nieces.  Vivian was a devoted daughter and spent may years caring for her aging parents.  When she was able to find the time, she also enjoyed sewing, knitting, made quilts, dresses, aprons and pot holders.  She loved going to church and often took her niece, Carol, with her. She relished in times visiting with friends and neighbors, resulting in many happy moments of talking and sharing. Vivian was often quiet and thoughtful, and seemed to listen, rather than talk.  Vivian would have made a great mother, a kind, caring person and always happy to help if need, but she wasn’t blessed with children; therefore, gave her love to many pet cats over the years.

Mary, Vivian’s niece, has a vivid memory of Vivian going outside on a sunny summer day, near the apple trees to play her violin.  This is a vision imprinted on Mary’s heart and never to be forgotten.  The wonderful music with birds, bees, butterflies, squirrels all coming to join in the spender.  They often reminisced about this memory during the visits to Grand View Manor.  Vivian would smile as she drifted back in time to younger and happier days.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 12:00 pm in the Berwick Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a Charity of One’s Choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Berwick Funeral Chapel, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick, NS, B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900).
