I always wanted to be a writer, and I am one, but music-worshipping women such as Aunt Lillian presented a glossy picture of life as a musician/music teacher in Dartmouth and Halifax that my musician/music teacher mother, Adrienne, supported and lavished on me. It was difficult breaking free of the typical Dartmouth-city 1970s' and 1980s' music-focussed agenda, so prevalent in my social circle, that permeated my comfortable Crichton Park past and remained unquestioned until my mid-30s when I was raising my own children, who were homeschooled.

Lorna,
I was privileged to have been able to provide customer service to your mother for many years, and may I say it was my pleasure to do so. Your mother’s way of carrying her self and her lovely nature always made me smile, not to mention her story telling ability. Please know, although I am unable to attend her service, I will be thinking of you and of course her at this time. Suzie MacVicar

Dear Lorna and Jim. I'm so very sorry to hear of Lillian's passing. I have so many memories of her excellent hospitality and kindness. She was the kind of friend you keep for your whole life. Lillian was a class act, and the world is a little less sophisticated without her in it. I'll think of her often, and you as well. Much love from Toronto, Elizabeth

Lorna and family, Ian and I pass on our sincere condolences and thoughts. Your mom was an extremely memorable person and so very kind. She was a role model for many at Stairs. She always smiled. She was kind to me in high school many years ago when I was trying so hard to play “fiddle” giving me many “last minute tips”. I know these times are difficult and please know that although we are no longer part of the Stairs/Dartmouth community, our thoughts are with you.
Cheryl Sutherland and Ian Fraser.
