Obituary of Greta Elizabeth West

Please share a memory of Greta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Greta Elizabeth West, age 98, of Berwick, passed away March 29, 2019 in Berwick. Born in New Ross, she was a daughter of the late Augustine and Grace (Adams) Keddy. She was the eldest of 13 children.

Greta moved to the valley in her teen years and married Garnet West. He was the love of her life, and they moved many times throughout their marriage before moving to the farm in Rockland in 1965. Greta was an excellent seamstress and cook. She made a wonderful pot of soup and made many dresses for her daughters. She picked apples on the farm and had as many as 10 apple pickers boarding in her house. She made their meals, did their wash, and also kept the house spotless. Greta enjoyed reading, playing cards, knitting, and making quilts. Greta always had time to read to her grandchildren, and she loved parades.

Greta is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Bill) Cowtan, Ottawa; Judy (David) Marr, Saint John; Nancy (Greg) Cougle, Cole Harbour; Donna (Murray) Saunders, Berwick; son, John (Tammy) West, Rockland. Greta is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; sisters, Kaye Countway, Chester; Marcelle Elliott, New Ross; sisters-in-law, Jessie West, Cambridge; Alberta Keddy, Twilah Keddy, both of New Ross; Dorothy Keddy, St. Stephen, N.B.; brother-in-law, Eugene Elliott, New Ross.

Besides her parents, Greta was predeceased by her husband, Garnet; daughter, Elaine; son-in-law, James Cluff; grandson, Michael Cluff; sisters, Nina White, Wilma Keddy, Leola Armstrong and Patricia and Irene, both in infancy; brothers, Norwood, Chester, Sheldon, Edward, and Garnet.

The family would like to say thank you to Dr. Bustin, Jacinta Harvey, and to the Grandview Manor staff for their excellent care.
