Obituary of Winnifred Viola Hazel

Please share a memory of Winnifred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Winnifred Viola Hazel, 75 of Sheffield Mills passed away on April 18, 2019 in her home.  She was the daughter of the late George Albert and Viola Mae (Houghton) Stuart.

Winnifred, as a child, liked to go coasting, back when the snow got very deep.  A few friends decided to go out, on snowy day, tabogganing. Winnie sled down a steep hill and then just disappeared.  Her friend, Merrill Daniells, who was just a little fellow at the time, rushed down the hill to find her. To his amazement, he found her buried head deep in the snow and needing rescuing, as she was scared and crying because she could not get out.  Once they were able to dig her out of the snow, they were able to continue having fun coasting.

Winnie married the love of her life, Deb.  They were married a number of years and had all the children they wanted.  When the children were younger, they obtained a shetland pony named Scruffy. The very first day of having Scruffy, Winnie was standing behind him when Deb decided to give a little slap on his butt. Poor Winnie, up came Scruffy’s hind legs and planted both hooves in Winnie’s shin.  Even though Winnie had nasty bruising on both her legs, everyone around had a great laugh.  From that day on, she really had dislike for old Scruffy, who was only reacting to the little slap from Deb.  Dispite not liking Scruffy, Winnie did like going on a sleigh and buggy rides, as we had a team of ponies and horses.

She is survived, and missed very deeply, by her loving husband Adlebert “Deb” Hazel, Sheffield Mills; daughter Brenda (Roch) Baron, Quebec; Donna (Howard) Hill, Morden; son Michael Hazel, Kentville; sister Valentine (Mike) Demvisky, St. Catherines, ON; brother Gerald Stuart, Morden; three grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Winnie was predeceased by her sister Helen Blanche Stuart and brother Cecil George Stuart, both formally of Hall’s Harbour.

The Lord's Prayer
(traditional)

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.
