Obituary of Robert Stephen Dibbon

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

DIBBON, Robert Stephen of Dartmouth age 56, passed away peacefully on July 9/19 surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his father & stepmom, Raymond & Carole Dibbon (Economy), sisters Chrissy (Charlie) of Debert, NS, Cathy of Chase, BC and half brother Billy (BC). Nephews Justin (Debert), Timothy (Prince George) and niece Amanda (Port Hardy, BC). He was predeceased by mother Dorothy Jean Balcom, both maternal and paternal grandparents.

Robert worked for over 30 years at Dalhousie University at Howe Hall & Shirreff Halls starting out as a dishwasher and working his way up through to become a cook. He was an avid model builder with examples of his work being on displayed at various locations in the Halifax area throughout the years. He won many awards for his artistic work and creativity. One of his many loves was his motorcycle which he drove at every opportunity and we will miss him pulling into the driveway. He was a past member of The Tailhook Association and had great experiences participating at the air shows in Shearwater.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the medical staff at the 3rd floor, Dartmouth General as well the staff at the Dixon Centre in making Robert comfortable through this last journey. We also wish to express a special thank you to a few people who had Robert’s back. To Mabel Barnett, your thoughtfulness and going above and beyond for a co-worker truly shows that he had an angel in his corner. To his modeling buddies, Fred, Ed & Mike, he spoke often of all of you, thanks for being his friend. Last but certainly not least, Dorothy and Ray Wincey, there is not enough words in the dictionary to express our gratitude and appreciation for the journey that you also took with Robert. He never complained through this but you had his back the whole way and knew when and what he needed. Your compassion and patience for Robert (cause we know how he could be) shows what true friends are, thank you.

A memorial service will be held on July 27 at 2pm at St. Marks Anglican Church, Gottigen Street, Halifax, NS, reception to follow. Interment to take place at a later date.
