Obituary of Mildred Cynthia Raymond

Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With deep sadness, the family of Mildred Cynthia (Specht) Raymond, age 99, formerly of Smiths Cove, Digby County, announce her passing on July 29, 2019 at the Villa Acadienne, Meteghan.  Millie was the only daughter of the late Orrie and Stella (Rowlett) Specht, and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband LeMert; brother Thomas Specht; half-sisters Edna Height and Elma Robicheau; and half-brother Clyde Specht.

Millie is survived by a daughter Linda (Terry), Smiths Cove; sons Fred (Darlene), New Minas; Rae (Gerry), Ottawa; “Gramie Millie” leaves her everlasting love with grandchildren Andrea Melanson, Michael Carty, Miranda Raymond and Christopher Raymond; and great-grandchildren Tyisha, Jax, Liam, Logan, Quinn, Ella and Meadow; several nieces and nephews.

Millie graduated from Digby Business College and was initially employed by the Bank of Nova Scotia.  Later, she joined the staff of the McCleave Medical Centre and retired from the Digby County Power Board. Millie was a member of the Smiths Cove Baptist Church and Auxiliary.

A sense of adventure and love of travel took her to numerous destinations, including Europe, United States, the Caribbean and Canada. She particularly enjoyed the car trips and regular social activities with long-time and close friends Dot, Kay and Ruby.  Millie had the passion and skills for quilting, knitting and gardening, creating works of art and exemplary roses that she proudly shared.  The quilts, in particular, are now family heirlooms and will be forever cherished.

At this time, Millie’s family wishes to extend a sincere, heartfelt thank you to Dr. Chandler, Dr. Dugas and Dr. Blinn, as well as ALL staff at the Villa Acadienne, Meteghan, for the kind, caring and compassionate support given to Mom for the past four years.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life, which will take place on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from Noon to 2:00 pm at the Smiths Cove Baptist Church. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Smiths Cove Baptist Church and/or the IWK Health Centre.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Digby, B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
