Obituary of Lavinia Una Roy

Please share a memory of Lavinia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lavinia Una Roy (Hill), 79 of Canning passed away October 6, 2019 in her home surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Pereaux, she was the youngest daughter of the late Oliver John and Frances (Balsor) Hill.

Lavinia was a woman of deep faith and sang in the church choir, this brought her peace and joy.  Besides being a devote Christian, she was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Canning Branch #73 and Glooscap Rebekah Lodge, Canning #118.  She had such love for children and anything she could do for them; any child that walked through her door felt the love that emitted from her and she became a foster mother.  She raised her foster children as she did her own, with love and admiration.  This certainly showed when her daughter, Sally, passed away, Lavinia did not think twice about taking in her grandson and giving him the most loving home to grow up in; Jamie was raised as though he were her very own son. Many did not know, but she owned a private nursing home, until her health did not allow her to continue looking after her elderly clients.

She loved animals, the outdoors, gardening and her family; but one of the things that brought her much enjoyment, was her love of ice cream.  Lavinia was a loving, caring, giving woman with a heart of gold and a great sense of humor.  When dementia began to overcome her, it never took away her most precious and endearing qualities.

Thank you for being our mother.  You leave behind so many broken hearts. We will carry you with us always and forever in our hearts and memories.  Until we meet again, Mom.

She is survived by her loving husband George Roy of Canning; sons Richard MacInnis of Greenwich; Ronald MacInnis of Centreville; Paul (Lucinda) MacInnis of Habitant; Jamie (Kendra) MacInnis of Habitant; daughters Ellen (John) Vaughan of Kentville; Elaine (Darren) MacInnis-Thorne of Edmonton, AB; Roseann (Dave Murray) MacInnis of Canning; brothers Donald (Freda) Hill of Centreville; Gene (Jean) Hill of Hillaton; sister-in-laws Ellen Hill of Port Williams; Elsie (Oliver “Bun”) Hill of Kentville; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; step-children Brad (Wanda) Roy and Karen (Leon) Salsman
