We were so sorry to hear of John's passing. A happy man, he always had a story to tell and would make you laugh.
John and Lida were always supportive of their community and when they lived here in Waterville, we (Firemen's Auxiliary) could always depend on Glad Gardens to supply us with the most beautiful glads to decorate our Princess floats.
In the fall, he would often call on Bobby to chase the varmints out of his corn and they always shared a lot of laughs.
John was a good man and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Our sincerest sympathy,
Bobby and Sharon

I am deeply saddened by the loss of John. I first met him in the 1980s when he and Lida welcomed their daughter Alice’s friend into their home in Waterville. I think they were both somewhat bemused by this girl from a Labrador mining town who hadn’t really spent any time on a working farm. When my parents later moved to NS, they befriended John and Lida too - and my dad often consulted John about fruit trees and his greenhouse. I tried to visit the LeDucs each time I was in Nova Scotia for a visit, sometimes staying with them on the farm. John had a wicked sense of humour and loved to tease. Favourite memory (and there are many): he grew rows and rows of glads and it became my favourite flower. I would buy bunches of them to stuff in the back seat of my car for the return trip to NL. One year, I asked if he would grow purple glads for me, as I said that whenever I got married, those were the flowers I wanted to carry. He did, and for a number of years thereafter, when I’d check in he’d reassure me that the purple glads were growing well. The years passed; no wedding in sight. Finally, one year when I asked about my purple glads, he said there were none in the field - essentially telling me that even glad bulbs had a shelf life! Too funny - it still makes me smile. Sincere condolences to Lida, Alice, Earl, and Shane, and also to Mary and Randy and their families. John was a lovely man who will be missed.
