I am sorry to hear about Bette. When My husband and I visited Bette with my sister Darlene, she opened her home to us and showed us around much of her beautiful provence. When we left NS Bette gave me two stone figures and I still have them. I will treasure them now. I visited Bette again in 2016 (I think) and again we spent some time exploring. Bette, thank you for your hospitality and friendship. My condolences to the family. Rest in peace, Bette.

We just want you to know that our thoughts are with you all. Bette was generous with her time and talents. She always seemed to be where she was needed most. We remember with thanks the time she spent in Calgary with Ralph and Matthew when he was young. We are happy to be part of the extended Marshall family.

So saddened to hear of Bette passing. My sincere condolences to the "half dozen" who I have known all my life since the first day of school. Bette was like a mum to all of her kids friends. She had a great sense of humor and the infectious laugh to go with it. With lots of fond memories, whether a big crowd for a Thanksgiving dinner or a foursome for bridge.
She was a great lady, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be missed.

I have so many happy memories of Mum, ones where i find myself smiling and laughing and sometimes crying at often in these last two weeks.
The thing that resonates with me was how she ALWAYS had your back, whether I was right or wrong she would stand by me and support me. One of my favorite memories is when I was 16 or 17 and I had borrowed Dad's car...being an inexperienced driver I accidentally put a substantial scrape down the passenger side of his car while at the Mall. I came home and thought I'd better come clean right away. Dad was so absorbed in his Louis L'amour book he didn't hear my confession. Two days later Dad discovered the scrape himself and presumed he was the victim of a hit and run. Our beautiful, kind, sweet Mum didn't correct him and I was off the hook!! She got some big hugs and kisses from her baby girl that day.
I will love you forever Mum, I will miss you always, for as long as I live your baby I will be.

I have many memory’s of “Mum”
Her best advice to me was always pursue your dreams and goals... that way you get to say no when the time comes up . Otherwise, you don’t get to say.
One of my fondest memories was mum when I returned home in 1976 after 18 months on the west coast She was 45 at the time and the “1/2 dozen” were fully grown (or mostly). Hartley was still with us!
It was her advice that I pursue my dreams and enrolled at school. After all, I needed to pursue my goal. It was her advice that I used over and over again, that fall, that helped ensure I became the man I did. Repeatedly, I was bombarded with “opening days” for events and schooling that were all of a sudden calling me back. As mum said they would.
It was great time and terrific reunification after spending the last 18 months just trying to get along.
I love you mum

I have many wonderful memories of my other Mum, Betty. She was like a Mum to everyone. Most of all she was your dear friend, with words of kindness and sometime just mischievous all in good fun. I will never forget dancing the fox-trotting with her.
She lived life to the fullest. A lesson we should all take away from knowing Mum.

Sorry to hear about your Mum, Joyce. My fondest memories of Bette are going to parties at your house. I used to think, when I saw her, "You're never too old to party!" How she loved to chat and laugh!

Doreen and I want to pass on our sincere condolences to all the Marshall families for their loss. Bette was a very special lady and we know that she will be missed.
I will always remember those happy days in Halifax and Tantallon when the Marshalls, the Clarks, the Blighs and the Freemans would get together for fish and lobster on the weekend at Tantallon. It was a zoo with all the kids and adults and so much fun. As you remember all those fun times, and there were so many, Bette will always be with you.

Oh Ann and Sue, losing your wonderful mom is one of the hardest things to do. I wish peace and serenity for you and the rest of the 1/2 dozen. Bette was a loving soul with a quick smile and love for all. Mom and Dad enjoyed her company when they would meet up with Bette and Hartley. Mom always spoke sweetly of Bette.
When Bette and Hartley were on the Miramichi Chris and I went to visit them, it was a lovely couple of hours and we laughed so much.
My favourite story is not a personal experience. I was told that Dave M. came to pick Sue up one fine evening. As he sat at the table Bette decided to have some fun and dumped the "Pick-up-Stix" on the table for Dave to play. This kind of "startled" Dave and he felt obligated to play. Oh the 70's.
Bette was a one of a kind, special lady and we remember her with a smile on her face.
Love to all.

The most iconic moment I can think of for nanny is the first time she made me take a non childrens chewable pill. I had a headache and nanny gave me 2 advils and water. She told me what to do and stood watching me. I took a sip of water, put the pills in my mouth and tried to swallow. I paniced, only swallowed the water and just looked at her in horror. She smiled and pretended to fake punch me in the stomach, which made me swallow the pills. This was one of the strongest, most resilient, respectful and funny women I have, or ever will meet. She made the most wonderful, loving and inviting families I have ever met. Im so glad shes at peace. Love you Nanny, you will deeply be missed ❤

Nanny will forever live on in the hearts of many through our memories of her poise, sense of humour and undoubting love. One of Nanny’s missions in life was to ensure that no grandchild or family member alike had an empty stomach. She always made sure to achieve that mission. She has also ensured that we will always have full bellies for ever through her passing down of many delicious receipes, my favourite being her Mac ‘n’ Cheese. Love you forever, Chiara.

Hi Joyce,
I saw in the paper that your Mom had died. I was sorry to hear that, no matter how old your Mom is, it is still hard when they pass.
Pass my condolences onto the rest of the half dozen.
I have such fond memories of the family dinners and making Christmas paper at your house when we were young. It seems sad to think that the whole generation are now gone.
Love Margie
