Obituary of Earl Cameron Bouchard

Please share a memory of Earl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Earl Cameron Bouchard passed away peacefully, with family by his side, in the early morning of November 7th, 2019 at the Melville Lodge nursing home in Halifax. He had just turned 93.  Earl lived at Melville Lodge for nearly five years, where he received the most excellent care, and for that we are truly grateful.

Earl was born October 17th, 1926 on Beaver Mountain near James River, Nova Scotia.  He was the son of Angus and Christena Bouchard, and a younger brother to Myrtle (Sellars) and Laverne (Reynolds). He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951 as a logistics technician. He met his lifelong love, Gertrude "Gertie" Luther, while stationed in Gander, Newfoundland and they married in 1954. Together they had postings to Ottawa, Cold Lake, Germany, and Ottawa a second time, with Earl finishing his military career in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia in 1977.  Soon afterwards, he became a public servant for the Department of National Defence at CFB Greenwood, retiring from that post in 1991.  During Earl's years in the military, he and Gertie made many friendships in different parts of the world that lasted throughout their lives.

Earl and Gertie had a magical marriage for almost 55 years, until her passing in 2009. Their home was always warm and welcoming, and they made everyone feel special. They were wonderful and loving parents to their three sons - Derrick (Fioretta), Lyall (Heather), and Dean (Laura). They cherished their nine grandchildren - Gabrielle, Mallory, Craig, Jessica, Jason, Alicia, Harrison, Spencer and Adam. Earl also had four great grandchildren - Caleb, Micah, Emma and Liam. Their many nieces and nephews also had a special place in their hearts.

We will all miss his mischievous sense of humour, his quick smile, and the love he showed to his family.

There will be a private family service. Memorial donations may be made in Earl's memory to the Canadian Alzheimer's Society, or any charity of your choosing. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
