Obituary of Phyllis Edna Smith

Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our wonderful mother and nan, Phyllis Edna Smith, on November 19, 2019, at the age of 94, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Phyllis was born, the eldest of nine children, on December 30, 1924, to Ernest and Lena (Benedict) Taylor.

Phyllis’ family was her life and she so enjoyed her time with each and every one of them. She was a hard worker, a great cook, a very skilled card player and she loved a full house. She was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #009, where she was president of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Phyllis was best known for her sense of humour and enjoyed a great laugh.

Mom will be greatly missed by her family, many friends and staff of Dykeland.

She will be sadly missed by her children Ernie (Linda), Clydie (Diana), Heather Smith, Margaret (Adrian) Rooney, Sandra (Chris) Northup; brother Ronnie (Peggy); sisters Joan Armstrong, Faye (Donnie) Brooks, Doreen Hunter; grandchildren Andrew, Diana, Scott, Jackie, Lisa, Jessica, Jerry, Billy, Sarah, Justin, Kiera, Robert, and Patrick; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Clyde; son Fred; daughter Helen and two daughters in infancy, Leslie and Carol; and grandson Lincoln; brothers Danny and Gary; and sisters Beverly and Miriam.

The family would like to thank the staff of Dykeland Lodge for their wonderful care and friendship.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 1:30 pm in the Dykeland Lodge with Chaplain Debra Mosher officiating. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dykeland Lodge or a charity of one’s choice.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
