Obituary of Barbara Mae Ford

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Mae Ford, 89 of Aylesford. Barb passed away quietly in her sleep after a sudden illness in the Valley Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late George Raymond and Constance (Bowlby) McPhee.

Born and raised in Aylesford, Barb met her husband Leo who was then stationed at Greenwood. Leo’s career found them stationed at various places across Canada and even England. Finally returning to Aylesford, she was able to take up gardening and bird feeding, cards with her sisters, perfecting the art of the strawberry shortcake and egg tarts, and spoiling her dogs, Mikey and Chico. Having had quite enough of traveling around, Barb was quite content to have her kids, their kids and friends come down to visit.

She leaves behind her daughter Karen (Carpenter); sons Leo (Barb), Raymond (Tami) and Frank; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister Edna (Brunt).

Barb was predeceased by her husband Leo; sons Ronald Lawrence and Darryl Lynn; daughter Audrey Elizabeth (Neilsen); brother George; and sisters Faye (Elliott) and Cheryl (Thibault).

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Valley Regional Hospital, Dr. Bustin as well as members of the VON.

At Barb’s request, no services will be held, cremation has taken place. Family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital, the Victorian Order of Nurses, Diabetes Canada, the SPCA or a charity of one's choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
