Obituary of Arlene Janet Corkum

Please share a memory of Arlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Arlene Janet (MacInnis) Corkum, 61 of Berwick  passed away suddenly on March 12, 2020 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. She was the daughter of the late Obadiah (Leona) MacInnis of Scotts Bay Road.

Arlene was a resident of Liberty Lodge for 17 years and was loved by everyone. One person said they will miss their “ray of sunshine”.

Arlene was a person of many talents. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting with her sisters, and most recently making little cards for her many friends. She enjoyed writing notes and had a large network of pen pals. Some of the little poems she wrote showed deep spiritual meaning. She loved her family and her many friends.  She had a warm and friendly personality with a sincere care and compassion for her special friends. She appreciated everything that was done for her.

Throughout her lifetime, Arlene had a number of health issues. It was her Faith, her friends, her family and her strong will, that gave her strength and hope to face each struggle.

A special thank you from the family to Wanda and Kelly for your kindness and support.  At the home where Arlene lived, she helped in the kitchen with the dishes and always wanted to go beyond her call of duty to do more.

She is survived by a daughter Mary (Stanley) Robertson of Halifax; two step-sons Harold (Donna) and Martin Corkum of Scotts Bay Road; sisters Muriel Barkhouse, Freda (Donald) Hill,  Daisy Morgan, Ruby Benjamin and Mary (Murray) Barkhouse; brothers Austin (Theresa) MacInnis,  Gerald (Linda) MacInnis, Howard (Christina) MacInnis, Arnold MacInnis, John (Darlene) MacInnis, Charles (Linda) MacInnis and David MacInnis; also, many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Arlene was predeceased by her husband David; sisters Sylvia and Donna; brothers Arthur and Stacy.

Graveside Service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2020 at 2:00 pm in Scots Bay Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made charity of choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Wolfville Funeral Chapel, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, B4P 1E5 (902-542-4656).

Service Bulletin Information

Fall of the Year 2016

I can’t explain

What happened to me,

That made me of twaine,

One new creature

For all to see.

I can’t explain

Ere Jesus drew near,

The work he did on me

And I was left with

A Godly fear.

What I can explain is

That the work Jesus did for me

Was forever valued in my heart.

Now Jesus lives in me.

Now I have a new song

In my heart!
