Obituary of Freeman Hallett Rice

In loving memory of Freeman Hallett Rice “Jed”, born in Hilltown on February 26, 1944, passed away peacefully in the Yarmouth Hospital on April 10, 2020 at the age of 76 with his loving wife and granddaughter by his side.  He was the son of the late Walter and Mildred (McCullough) Rice of Hilltown.

He loved to go fishing and his daughter Anita often went with him. Jed treasured his hunting trips to the camp with his good friends Sankey, Ebby and David Mullen. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing crokinole (he was an excellent crokinole player). Jed also loved his card game nights with his friends, he was a huge Blue Jays fan and he never missed a game on TV.

Jed was very kind and friendly, loved to strike up conversations with anyone, whether he knew them or not, and he enjoyed making people laugh. He loved his family dearly and he will be greatly missed.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Blanche of Weymouth; daughters Anita Rice of Weymouth; Darlene (Lionel) Deveau of Saulnierville; granddaughters Amanda (Nicky) Stone of Weymouth; Tiffany Saulnier (Tyler Deveau) of Spryfield; great-granddaughter Brianna Stone; sisters Violet (Bernard)  Amero, Dorothy (late Murray) Gavel, Thelma Rice, Joyce (John) Frith and Flora (late Ray) Nancekievill.

Besides his parents, Freeman was predeceased by his brothers Elmer, Albert and Milford Rice; sister Beulah Gavel.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Digby, B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
