Obituary of Jean Elizabeth Huntley-Maynard

Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Jean Huntley-Maynard, 82, who died peacefully in the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville on April 8, 2020. Daughter of the late Hazen and Marion (Spicer) Huntley and beloved wife of 35 years of the late John Stanmore Maynard.

Jean was a respected and well-loved teacher. She taught all grades at the Elementary level, Latin and English at High School level, English and Humanities at Marianopolis College (1976-1997) and Composition at University level. In 1992, she completed her Doctorate in Administration and Policy Studies in Education at McGill University. She was a very active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She retired in her favorite place, Harbourville, where every day she could admire the Bay of Fundy. In retirement, she became an avid Celtic quilt artist. This led to starting her own business, Keltica Quilt Designs. Her quilts were known internationally. As Jean put it; “Living a happy, fulfilled life in retirement”.

Jean will be greatly missed by all her family, her many cousins, and friends. Her cherished dog Mickey will be missing her but has found a great new home.

Jean is survived by her honorary daughter and son, Sylvia and Bill; her stepsons Roger, Colorado and Russell, Barbados.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother John.

As per Jean’s request, there will be no funeral proceedings nor receptions. Her ashes will be scattered in the Bay of Fundy. Memorial donations may be made to the following organizations, as per her wishes, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, VON Nova Scotia, Canadian Wildlife, World Vision or The Great Trail. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
