Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Crouchman

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret “Betty” Elizabeth Crouchman, 84 of Middleton passed away peacefully in her home on April 22, 2020 with her soulmate, Chuck, by her side.  Born in Torbrook Mines on March 3, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Gertrude (Nichols) Videto.

Betty’s life was filled with a caring spirit for all and her door was always open with a smile and offer of a cup of tea.  Friends and family were extremely important to her and shared her gifts and her love of music with all.  These values were instilled in her family from an early age. She also shared her Christian Faith and was an active member of her Church family.

She was so musically inclined that she taught herself how to play the guitar, accordian, piano and dulcimer.  She and chuck gave back to their community by playing and singing in churches, seniors’ homes, hospitals and community fundraisers.  Betty also volunteered with Cancermount for many years, a founding board member of Futureview Training Rehibilitation Employment Association (Memory Lane Railway Museum).

All who knew, Betty, will remember her resilience, sparkle in her eye, fiestiness, and overwhelming love for life.

Betty is survived by her loving husband Charles “Chuck” Crouchman; daughters Janet (David) Taylor, Middleton; Bonny (Ian) Colburne, Nictaux Falls; Crystal Veinot (Greg Cosman), South Williamston; Melodie (Jon) Howes, Brier Island; stepson Tony Crouchman, Nictaux; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brother Neil (Lori) Videto, Pembroke, ON; and sister Joyce (Hedley) Spicer, South Farmington.

Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her first husband Malcolm Veinot; brothers Earl in infancy, Keith, Paul, Vaughn; and infant great-granddaughter Lexie.

The family wish to extend many heartfelt thanks to all Caregivers, Homecare, VON and Paliative Care.

Private family service may be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Red Cross or your local VON.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Berwick Funeral Chapel, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick, NS, B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900).
