Obituary of Joseph John Johnstone

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph “Joey” John Johnstone, 53 of New Minas, on May 26, 2020 in the Valley Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Kentville on October 18, 1966.

Joey worked for many years at Apple Valley until health issues forced him to retire early. He was a people person and missed the daily interactions with his co-workers.

One of the finer things in life for Joey was travelling. Short or long, road trips with his “Bestie” Jen brought him much delight. He loved spending time with family and friends, and relished in the connection with others. But usually, you could find Joey either enjoying a movie at the theatre or out for his daily walks hunting for golf balls.

Joey will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by daughter Kayley Butler, New Minas; son Justin Welton, Kentville; brothers Larry, Prince Edward Island; Paul, New Minas; Charles, Wolfville; Doug, New Minas; sisters Heather, Ontario; Patty and Caroline, New Minas; Pam, Cambridge; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joey was predeceased by sister Patsy Corkum; foster parents Paul and Margaret Corkum.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to the NS Heart & Stroke Foundation or charity of one’s choice.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
