Obituary of George Curtis Douglas

George Curtis Douglas, age 70, of Halifax, died peacefully in the Victoria General Hospital on September 6th. Born in Lockeport, he was a son of the late Jenny (Loveless) and Curtis Douglas.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Audrey Boutilier; daughter Amanda (Brett), Halifax; stepson, Tim Boutilier (Cindy), Halifax; stepdaughters, Angela DeWolfe, Halifax; and Sandra Fyfe (Jim), Wolfville; grandson Harrison; step-grandchildren: Charles, Jillian, Justin, Jason, Emma and Alec; great-granddaughter, Payton; brothers, Albert (Helen), Gerry (Darlene) and sister Joy; sisters-in-law Sherilyn and Lynda, many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Jim and Joe, and sister, Margaret.

George/Papa was kind and generous to everyone he met and loved being with his family and friends. He had a big smile and an even bigger heart. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Dartmouth. Sadly, due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance will have to be by invitation only and there will be no reception. Interment will take place at Fairview Lawn Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in George’s memory to Diabetes Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the VON staff who cared for George over the past three months, Archdeacon Marilyn Newport who provided pastoral support to the family, and to the many doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff on 7.2 and 5.2 at the Halifax Infirmary and 5A at the VG who helped George through a number of medical emergencies in the last month of his life. We are so grateful for your kindness, care and compassion to us all.
