Obituary of Kenneth Joseph Phelan

Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kenneth “Ken” Joseph Phelan, 77 of Greenwich, (formerly of Rockingham, NS and Fort McMurray, AB) passed away peacefully on September 14, 2020 in the Valley Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Phelan.

Ken was a plumber pipefitter by trade and he followed his dream to move west with a young family. After 5 years in Calgary, Ken worked as a Construction and Turn Around Planner with Suncor Energy for 25 years. He could always be counted on to show up and lend a hand to help in any way.  He enjoyed being outside, campfires and shooting his black powder musket. Ken wasn’t a man of many words, but the ones he shared meant something.  An outdoorsman and history buff, he had a love for the mountains, treasure and planning the next adventure with his family.

He was a true gentleman who will be missed by everyone who loved him.

Ken is survived by his wife Isabel (MacLean); daughter Sara Phelan of Riverview, NB; grandchildren Lily and Ty Waters-Peach; sister Betty (Ken) Edwards of Hammonds Plains; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by his son Ian Phelan and brothers Claude, Leslie and Patrick.

There will be no memorial service in light of the pandemic restrictions. Ken will be cremated and laid to rest in his favorite spot under the mountain sky. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
