Tony Hope

Obituary of Tony Hope

Please share a memory of Tony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anthony “Tony” Charles Hope, 56 of Greenwich left his earthly body and ran to meet family and friends in Heaven on October 7, 2020. God placed Tony in the right family, Charles and Carolyn (Begin) Hope, as they loved, laughed and cried with him, taking that trust and doing God’s work here on earth.

Tony has lived for the past 20 years in the loving arms of Emmaus House in Greenwich, within the L’Arche community.  They have enjoyed and supported him and he enjoyed all of them.  Many shared his love of music and Tony was DJ for his friends at regular dances in Dartmouth.  His love of Beatles music took him and two of his L’Arche friends, Val and Sarah, to Liverpool, England, to walk on Abbey Road. Tony spent his working years at the Flower Cart. He learned many of life's lessons under the guidance of Kevin and Gary.  He was very proud to recieve his 25-year Service Award.

Tony had a big personality and touched many lives.  From a young age, he had a remarkable memory for names and birthdays.  In his extended family, he was known for buttering birthday noses so the person could slide through another year.

He never forgot a special occasion, never missed an opportunity to celebrate and taught those who had the opportunity, how to live every single moment.

Tony was also loved and will be remembered by his church family in Avonport for his great faith, generosity of spirit, and outgoing friendliness.  He leaves a large hole in all our lives.  The family asks that you please take a moment to remember Tony by listening to a song he loved to sing, “It’s a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.

He is survived by his parents, Charles and Carolyn (Begin) Hope; uncles Tom Begin (Faye); Merle (Terrie) Hope; aunts Roxanna (Bruce) Johanson; Debby (Bruce) Shaw; Betty Hines (Jerry); first cousins Beth, Emily, Tammy, Nathan, Kelly, Adam, Rachael, Terry, Susan, Cindy, Sheldon and many other extended family members; step-grandfather Ron Maynard.

Tony was predeceased by his grandparents Clyde and Vivienne (Maynard) Begin; Clyde and Libby Hope; uncles Bill Hines (Tony’s fishing buddy); Robert Begin (in infancy); cousins Eric, Erica, Billy and Debbie.

Cremation has taken place.  A service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the L’Arche Community 341 Main St, Wolfville, NS B4P 2N5.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).  Online condolences may be made by visiting:  www.serenityfuneralhome.ca
