Obituary of Kathleen Marie Benjamin (Bennett)
Kathleen "Kay" Marie Benjamin (Bennett) neé Margeson, 83 of New Minas passed peacefully away on October 11, 2020 with her family by her side in the Valley Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ora (Simpson) Margeson.
Kay was a member of the Rebecca’s IOOF #34, Kentville and the Royal Canadian Legion, Kentville Branch #6. She was a stay at home mom and a proud homemaker who provided for her large family. Kay was well-known for her delicious molasses cookies, tea biscuits, decorated cakes and the best apple pies around; which mysteriously, the pies would disappear overnight. She was a kind, generous, non-judgemental person. Kay believed in the best of everyone, all her life. In her younger years, Kay was a beautiful and graceful dancer. Kay also took great pride in being a grandmother and great-grandmother of her many lovely children.
In Kay’s later years, she enjoyed her beloved dogs, Molly and Scott and her cats, Rascal and Fluffy. When taking Kay shopping, the trips were long because of all the people she knew. They would stop her to chat and delight in her smiling face.
As her health declined over the past few months, Catherine Mackin provided the opportunity for Mom to stay in her home. The family want to give Catherine a special thank you for her wonderful and compassionate care and the love given to make this possible. The family would also like to thank the VON Continuing Care, VON Nursing, Palliative Care and the staff at the Valley Regional Hospital for all their kindness and consideration given to Mom.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Brenda (Bruce) Hurwood, White Rock; Donna (Arden) Frost, Port Williams; Carol Benjamin, Oxford; Mark (Sheryal) Benjamin, New Minas; and Garth (Eleanor MacConnell) Benjamin, Kingston; siblings Howard (Sharon) Margeson, Fonthill, ON; Margaret Purdy, Berwick; Walter (Wanda) Margeson, New Minas; and Ron (Eileen Harris) Margeson, White Rock; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Kay was predeceased by her first husband Charles Allen Benjamin and her second husband George Bennett; children Faye Marie Benjamin and David Allen Benjamin.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020 at 11:00 am in Gaspereau Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Wolfville Funeral Chapel, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, B4P 1E5 (902-542-4656).
