I cannot truly express my sadness upon hearing of Doug's passing. Sheila and I offer our sincerest condolences. I was so pleased that we got to visit with him this past summer. Doug and I had not met face to face for a few years, but as soon as the door opened, there he was, Doug. His presence, humour, obvious love for his family and attention to detail were on full display as always. A truly wonderful afternoon to top off many years of conversation, laughs, road trips, more laughs and general foolishness. A renaissance man if one ever existed.
Kindest wishes from Phnom Penh
Barry and Sheila

I was probably among the very first to meet Doug here in Hantsport. A long time ago Doug applied for a position as English teacher at the then Hantsport High School. .I was part of the Board of School Commissioners that interviewed him. Two good decisions were made that day : #1-The board decided to hire Doug for that position .#2 Doug accepted that position . From that time Doug had a very successful; teaching career-instilling a love of English in his students and from what I can gather also a love of music. and he was held in high regard by many.
He will be missed by so many but most of all, Nancy, by you and your family .Cherish those memories
With love and sympathy.

Dear Nancy,
We met Doug many years ago when he brought to us some of his treasured books to repair and rebind. After that we got to know him a little better through casual conversation at various committee meetings or community events. We know him as a respected educator of many students at Hantsport School and a great contributor to his community..
But we also know him "at the movies". We'll miss our frequent talks on the sidewalk outside the Whittle Theatre after a particularly good film . We will miss seeing the two of you there together when the films finally start up again. His parting words for us are wonderful! Thank you for passing them on for all to enjoy.

My sincere condolences to the Irvine clan from ours.
I met Doug a short time ago via his love for music; subsequently supplying and installing the foundation of what was a definitive solution to bring his music collection to the forefront, where he could effectively "hear it for the first time". He was like a kid on Xmas morning. His passion was hard to hide.
That, combined with his taste in fine "spirit", led me to forge a bond with him. He was more than a client; wish I could have got to know him better.
Rock On Doug!!! You'll be missed.

Doug and I were inseparable pals up until we started school, and I have the scars to prove it! We got up to all kinds of mischief, such as the day we decided to dig a tunnel to hell through his sandbox. His brother was not amused and reported us to his mother, who was, but distracted us with cookies. I remember fondly the hot chocolates and cinnamon toasts on cold winter days. RIP, old friend. Firstly, I am shocked to read of Doug's demise. I was unaware of his illness. So young. :( Doug was my teacher in his first year of teaching. There wasn't a huge age gap so he related with us like no other teacher ever has. Mostly through his love for music. He would enlighten us by dissecting the words of a song into it's true meaning. I particularly remember some eye opening discussions around John Lennon and Elton John songs. However, I am sorry Doug but I have to tell the memory of your attempt to film a movie at the Haunted House in Hantsborder. We loved the nice long walks from the school so we didn't even mind that after 3 or 4 tapings, it was discovered that there was no film in the camera. The experience was educational. Doug was an inspiration to us. Hugs to you Nancy. Xo

Amazing Avon Street neighbors, and one of my most nerve racking babysitting gigs for a “High School teacher”. His zest for life, creativity and infectious smile will be fondly remembered. He was always encouraging his students to step outside their comfort zone and be expressive. A reputation as one of the “cool” teachers his passion for music and his hip style was an engaging means to help us learn. Teachers are woven into the fabric of our life’s journey.
