Murray Sheffield

Obituary of Murray Leroy Sheffield

Please share a memory of Murray to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

After a hard-fought battle with an aggressive cancer, Murray Leroy Sheffield, 69 of Canning, lost his battle peacefully on November 20, 2020, with his loving wife Leona (Butler) Sheffield, of over 50 years, by his side. Murray was born on July 20, 1951 to parents Betty May (Hazel) Sheffield and the late Murray Chute Sheffield of Kentville. Murray was the oldest of six children and was looked up and respected by each and every one of them.

As a young man he learned to work hard and take any job to help support his family. He retired in 2019 after working for GK Morse Trucking Ltd in Centreville. He was also a volunteer Firefighter in Canning for over 21 years and received a medal of honour from Governor General Adrienne Clarkson in 2002, this was a proud moment for him and his family. Murray was a kind, strong, proud and a very hardworking man and will be missed deeply by so many people.

We will miss you forever and always

Murray will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Leona; daughters (who gave him such joy) Lisa Burns of BC and Tracy Sheffield of Kentville. He was the proud grandfather to Brittney, Kurtis and Benjamin Burns who reside in BC.  Although they live miles apart the love, he had for these three was immense. Papa really wanted to survive long enough to meet his twin great-granddaughters about to be born but unfortunately god had other plans for him. He was also survived by his mother Betty Sheffield of Kentville; brothers Blair (Wanda) Sheffield of Canning; Blaine (Janice) Sheffield of Coldbrook; sister Sheila Sheffield of Vermont.

A quote written by his grandson Benjamin: “Papa is in a better place and having a good time with all of his other passed family up in heaven right now”

Besides his father, Murray was predeceased by brother John and sister Sylvia Smith.

Many thanks to Kentville Palliative Care and the VON for the care and support they gave to him over the last couple of months.

As per requested by Murray, there will be no service at this time. Memorial donations may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
