Obituary of Nelson Joseph Blinn

Please share a memory of Nelson to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Nelson Joseph Blinn, age 80 of Plympton, passed away on December 8, 2020 in the Valley Regional Hospital. Nelson was the son of the late Dennis and Eva (Doucette) Blinn, and the last surviving member of his immediate family.

“Dad could often be found honing his master wood-working skills in his workshop after ‘retiring’ several times, which always made us laugh when he announced his latest retirement as we knew it was impossible for him. You could count on Dad for his generosity, kindness, and his appreciation for the simple, meaningful things: walking on the beach and finding beach glass, gardening, bird watching, reading, taking care of his menagerie of tamed wildlife, having a cup of coffee with old friends, and spending time with his family.

If you were lucky enough to hear him tell a story of his youthful escapades and adventures, (of which there were many), it would leave you weak with laughter. No doubt in my mind he could have written a biography of his experiences. His sense of humor was on a whole other level and he could spend countless hours telling jokes and impersonations, usually of questionable characters from his childhood. For us, there was no greater story-teller or comedian.” - Lisa

Nelson will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Judy (Thibodeau); daughter Lisa (James) Simpson; beloved grandson Christian; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Besides his parents, Nelson was predeceased by brothers William, Louie, Gus, John, Ernie, Edward, Frank, George, Jimmy, Leon, Charlie and Fred; sisters Helen and Evelyn.

We'll never be able to fill the void of your absence; until we meet again.

Goodbye for now, with all our love.

As per Nelson's request, there will be no service. Memorial donations, in Nelson's memory, may be made to the Gilbert's Cove & District Historical Society in support of the Gilbert's Cove Lighthouse.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Digby, B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
