Obituary of Wanda Lorraine Sode

Please share a memory of Wanda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Wanda Lorraine Sode (nee Mailman), 63 of Chester Basin slipped away peacefully on January 8, 2021 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, with her loving children by her side as she took her last breath after her short but courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bridgewater, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Juanita (Acker) Mailman.

Wanda blessed so many people with her presence in her career paths as a hairdresser and various retail positions. She also had a special adoration for her grandson, Kian; absorbing as much time with him as she could and treasuring every minute.  An enjoyable passtime for Wanda was the many road trips she took with her daughter.  She loved seeing the sites, but most importantly, cherished the time spent with her doting daughter, Nikita. Being a mother’s greatest accomplishment, Wanda was very proud of both her children.

From making coasters, assisting her children with projects when they were still in school, refinishing furniture, to using her sewing machine, even making her daughter’s prom dress; Wanda was extremely gifted when it came to crafts. Her talent for making the best out of whatever she had, meticulously turning the ugliest thing into something so very precious.

Wanda will be lovingly remembered by her son Saleem (Natasha) and daughter Nikita (Michael); brothers Larry (Bernice), Jimmy (Diane) and Vernon (Betty); sisters Flora (Francis), Judy and Linda (George); grandson Kian; the father of her childen, Sobey Sode; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Wanda was predeceased by sisters Wilma and Kathy (Gary); brother-in-law Milt; and nephew Robert.

“We, the family would like to give a sincere thank you to Mom’s amazing work family at the Gold Nugget and Gold Bean Café.  We would also like to offer a special thank you to the Palliative Care Team at the South Shore Regional Hospital, as well as Dr. Gowan and Dr. Jenkins.”

Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of Wanda’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home New Ross Funeral Chapel, 4935 Hwy #12, New Ross, B0J 2M0 (902-689-2961).
