Obituary of Melvin Eric Robar

Please share a memory of Melvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Melvin Eric “Mellie” Robar, 76 of North River, Lunenburg Co., passed away unexpectedly January 29, 2021. Born in Middleton, he was the son of the late Lorne and Celetus “Lee” (Eagles) Robar

Mellie left school at an early age and went to work in the woods which led to him becoming a contractor for Bowaters. He left that occupation and went to work at Michelin in the mid-1970s, where he worked until his retirement in 1999. He and his wife Sharon ran a small store from their home for a time and he liked raising farm animals.

In his retirement, Mellie raised money through his music shows and jams for many community organizations including the Anglican Church Hall, New Germany, New Germany Legion, New Germany Medical Centre, Bonnie Lee Smile Fund, and Dalhousie Hall.

He was a member of New Germany & Area Lions Club, South Shore Bluegrass Music Assoc. and a former member of the NG Legion. He loved playing his guitar and listening to others play, playing cards, fishing for mackerel, farming, watching wrestling and westerns on TV, making sauerkraut and playing taxi for his friends and grandkids. Tim Hortons and McDonalds were common destinations.

He was quite a jokester and when asked how he was feeling he’d say “with my hands”. If he liked you, he tormented you. If he didn’t you figured something was wrong.

He was a man of great character who was eager to lend a hand when needed. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He will be forever loved and missed.

Surviving are sons Corey (Belinda (Naas)), North River and Shawn (Cambridge); grandson Mason and granddaughter Addison both of North River; niece Artlette (Bob) Ryder; great-nephews Steve, Rob, Trevor, and Mike Ryder and their families all in Ontario; companion Peggy Tufts and her daughters Anne and Julia of East Clifford.

Besides his parents, Mellie was predeceased by his wife Sharon; daughter Amanda; sisters Loretta Demone and Velma (in infancy); brother Herbert (in infancy).

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 1:00 pm in the St Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, North River. Memorial donations may be made to the Bonnie Lea “Smile Fund” or Charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home New Ross Funeral Chapel, 4935 Hwy #12, New Ross, B0J 2M0 (902-689-2961).
