Obituary of Kenneth Harris Jess

Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth “Ken” Jess, at the age of 82 at the Valley Regional Hospital on March 21, 2021.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, and was the son of the late Everett and Viola Jess of Halls Harbour.

A kind gentle soul who would do anything for anyone.

Ken married the love of his life, Rita, in October 1963.  They spent 62 years together and celebrated 57 years of marriage.  In 1964, Ken and Rita moved to Toronto, ON where Ken worked for GoodYear Tire for three years.  In 1967, they returned to the Valley in Nova Scotia, where Ken worked for over 20 years at Archibald Farms in Port Williams, retiring at age 50 years due to his health.

He enjoyed growing beautiful geraniums around his property as well as playing golf with his friends.  He loved his dogs, Tobby and Budy, and appreciated the long walks on the trails.  Ken was also a caretaker for the Coldbrook Heritage Hall and the Coldbrook Cemetery for over five years. He continued to run the Monday night cribbage games along side Rita until last year when COVID closed it down.

Ken will be remembered as a loving husband, uncle and friend to many.

We will miss you, Ken. Rest in Peace.

Ken is survived by his loving wife, Rita (Spinney) Jess; many nieces and nephews; and several friends.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetic Association or charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
