Obituary of Charles Joseph Thibodeau

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Joseph Thibodeau, aged 83 of Brighton, announce his passing on Monday, May 31, 2021 in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Charles was born on November 5, 1937 to the late Charles and Febrene/Marie (Muise) in Church Point.

Charles moved to the English-speaking community of East Ferry where, at the age of 5, he went to school on his first day with this name written on a piece of paper as he couldn’t speak the language. Charles was the last French-speaking member of our proud Acadian family

Over his life he had many jobs to provide for his family including laborer, truck driver, logger and fisherman, with his most proud accomplishment being owner and operator of the 45ft fishing dragger, MV Marion Michelle. Charles loved to hunt in his younger days, trout fish when he was not working, go four-wheeling with a crowd when he could and, of course, make his moonshine. Charles built his family home himself, in between fishing trips, of which he was very proud.

Charles leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Marion (Addington); sons Charlie (Jennifer) Thibodeau, Whale Cove; Mark Thibodeau, Meteghan; daughter Michelle (Clyde) Thibodeau-Wagner, Harmony; grandchildren Chris Thibodeau, Sandy Cove; Jamie Thibodeau, Sandy Cove; Heather Thibodeau, Meteghan; Adrienne Thibodeau, Alberta; Alicia Thibodeau-Silkie, Alberta; Noah Wagner, Harmony; Spencer Wagner, Harmony; Grace Wagner, Harmony; and seven great-grandchildren. Charles will also be sadly missed by his loyal and much-loved Blue Heeler, Buddy.

In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by his brother Gustave Thibodeau; sisters Margaret Leblanc, Edith Swink and Anna Thibodeau.

A special thank you to the amazing staff of Langford House at Tideview Terrance in Digby and the girls from Digby/Clare Homecare for their support, care and kindness over the last few months.

At Charles’ request there will be no funeral service or visitation.  A private interment will take place in the St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery in Church Point, at a future time. Anyone interested in making a memorial donation in Charles’ name, the Lodge that Gives held a special place in his heart from his time spent there. If you would like to send a message of condolence, you can do so to 565 Greenwood Road, Harmony NS, B0P 1R0. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Digby, NS B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
