I met Sylvia through our connection with my cousin Reg Andrews and Cuba familias. Sylvia was elegant, kind and generous in her outlook and life. She was a fun travelling companion to Cuba, schlepping suitcases bulging full of necessities for our Cuban friends. I enjoyed visiting her in the Valley and taking driving trips around the local area. I will miss seeing and hearing from her. To her daughters, go softly and gently. Your mum was something.

I knew Sylvia through a Nova Scotian group helping disadvantaged families in Cuba. She was full of practical energy & inspiring compassion. She treasured the trips she made to Cuba over many years, visiting local families at home as well as enjoying holiday resorts. (I met the hard-working mother befriended by Sylvia, to whom Sylvia very quietly sent helpful support for well-over a decade) In addition, no visit to Cuba went by without delivery of suitable shoes and foot care to other friends in need. This is but one of the kind things she did with great satisfaction, along with adding laughter and fun to any gathering. Sylvia inspired me with her powerful sense of adventure. She was a beautiful, confident, positive woman, standing tall, always elegant and smiling. That image remains with me and the Cuban families who mourn her passing. Deepest sympathy to Lyndse and Lezley. i feel very privileged to have known your mom. .

Richard and I did not know Sylvia on the island but did have the pleasure of knowing her when we moved to Kentville.
Not only did she take care of our feet, she hired me to clean her office and apt on Main St.
She loved to attend many tea’s at the Kentville New Horizon’s club and surrounding areas! Always dressed to the nine’s!
R.I.P dear lady!
Love ❤️

Dear family,
We were saddened to learn of Sylvia' death. She was a classy lady and a great friend to Eileen Lott whose business she took over and developed. Sylvia took great care of Miss Lott which is where we met her. We admired Sylvia's social conscience and came to know her as a friend.

"Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they have shared and the love they brought into our lives." I met Sylvia when I moved to Tideways Apartments and I will be forever grateful that I had the opportunity to have Sylvia for my friend. She organized our "Chair Yoga" sessions. She carried two books with here to our sessions, one held the sequence of exercises she guided us through and the other was a book of short meaningful stories. At the end of our session she would pick one to read to us. You always left Sylvia's Yoga sessions with a feeling of relaxation and comradery. She also suggested that we get together for an evening together such as, Valentines or St. Patrick's Day, and we all loved these; sharing stores and laughter made special because of Sylvia.
Please accept my deepest condolences for your family's loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My dearest Lyndse and Lezley:
I was so sad when you told me about your Mom's passing. Sylvia had a deep, life long friendship with my Mom, Lillian Elliott, who absolutely shared that flare for fashion, sense of humor and zest for life. They are together again, lighting up Heaven with their beautiful spirits! We were so very blessed to have their love. Sending hugs and prayers, Alicia.

We were so shocked to hear of Sylvia’s passing. Sylvia has been a strong influence on our family since we adopted Jessica her only grand daughter. Jessica’s continuing reaching out to help others is a legacy she received from Sylvia. Her great grandsons Malachi, Sebastion and Hank were also topics of conversations when we would get together or during a phone call to check on them. Malachi spent many summers with Sylvia while attending Centre Stage Theatre for children something Sylvia saw as important for him. We will continue to hold Sylvia in our prayers and treasure the memories we shared through this connection.

Sylvia, I will miss our chats and lunches and many laughs we had over the years.
We originally met at the Women's Center in Wolfville. It was truly a great blessing that you decided to volunteer at Fidelis, as you told me you wanted to volunteer at somewhere that was worthwhile. You were always straight and to the point and I will always miss you. My love goes with you dear friend.

Sylvia a longtime friend, I so miss our afternoon chats at Fidelis House on any variety of subjects, her interests were extensive and the woman was so well read so I was often on the listening side of the discussion. We had much fun. I still have books she loaned me to understand her perspective, and yes I am keeping them as her memorial. A twenty year friendship is so very important, RIP my dear friend.

Sylvia was such a dear, sweet soul. I had known her for many years and became reacquainted after my return to the Valley. I found we had a mutual friend in a refugee with whom she had volunteered. Faten always thought fondly of Sylvia, calling her the "princess " because she was so beautiful. Her inner beauty always shone forth. My prayers go out for the progress of her soul and for the comfort of those who loved her.
