Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce Evelyn Nowlan was born March 31, 1930 in Wolfville, and passed away on December 7, 2021 in the Windsor Elms Nursing Home in Falmouth. She was the daughter of the late Karl and Minnie Nowlan.
Joyce graduated from Wolfville High School and Kings County Academy in Kentville and worked in the family business, Nowlan’s Canteen, as well as assisting in the care and upkeep of the family homestead. She was a good cook, never flinching when her brothers, plus their families, would arrive and stay for several days, enjoying her tasty meals. She also helped to prepare the tasty pies and sandwiches for the Canteen enjoyed by the customers.
Joyce enjoyed gardening, hunting pheasants, reading the daily newspapers, supporting the Red Cross by canvassing, and assisting several other local charities. Her participation in church activities was shown by her involvement in the Women’s Missionary Society where she served as Secretary Treasurer for several years and she also enjoyed her position as a Sunday school teacher for some time. She was a life member of the Wolfville Baptist Church. Her love of sports was evidenced by her avid following of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays games.
Fondly remembered by her loving family.
Joyce is survived by brothers Karl (Joyce) Nowlan, James (Betty) Nowlan and Bruce (Pearl) Nowlan; also, eight nephews and seven nieces.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her sister, Miriam (Leo) Nasager; brothers Dwight (Patricia) Nowlan and Paul Nowlan.
Burial will take place in the Willowbank Cemetery at a later date to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
