Obituary of Anita Marie Haynes

Please share a memory of Anita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Anita Marie Haynes (Theriault), 84 of Digby. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of August 25, 2022 in the Tideview Terrace. Born on January 28, 1938 in Hectanooga, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Philomene (Maillet) Theriault.

Anita lived a full and active life, until the last couple of years when her health began to suffer. She raised her four busy boys, Remi, Steven, Christopher, and Marty.

Over the years, Anita enjoyed many outdoor activities such as camping with Arnold; clam-digging; walking her toy poodle, Holly; and gardening. She took great pride in her vegetable garden each summer. Anita also had a sharp mind and quick wit. She looked forward to solving the daily crossword puzzle and was the best Scrabble opponent you could ever find.

Anita was quite proud of her Acadian heritage, as was evident when she spoke French with her grandchildren and prepared the best rapure pie or chicken fricot. Her Catholic faith was important to her, and she loyally attended Mass as often as she could.

She loved her family immensely and never missed a birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion.

Anita will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Remi of Digby; Steven (Janice) of Digby; Christopher (Sharon) of Conway; Marty (Sandy) of Angus, ON; sisters, Marie (Frank) Shaw of Cornwallis; Delores “Tina” Cooke of Victoria, BC; Claudette Power of Woodstock, ON; grandchildren, Katherine, Emily, Andrew, Nicole, Daniel, Matthew, Jenna, Allison, and Amanda; she also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Anita was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Arnold Haynes; her first husband and father of her children, Roland Theriault; sister, Jeanette; brothers, Russel, Paul, and Andrew.

The family would like to thank the VON, Dr. Black, and the staff at Tideview Terrace for Mom’s care during the last few years.

A Celebration of Anita’s Life will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 1:00 pm in the Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Digby, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, an organization that was near and dear to her heart and that she fondly volunteered her time.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Digby, NS B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
